About Telmikind 40 Tablet

Telmikind 40 Tablet contains Telmisartan 40 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used to treat high blood pressure and to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in certain people at high risk. It relaxes blood vessels so blood flows more easily. It is usually taken once a day and needs to be taken long term, even when you feel well.

Uses of Telmikind 40 Tablet

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults at high risk of heart disease

Benefits

In high blood pressure

Lowering blood pressure reduces the strain on your heart and blood vessels and lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney damage. Most people with high blood pressure feel no symptoms, so keep taking it as advised.

Side effects

Most side effects are mild. Talk to your doctor if any of them bother you or do not go away. Do not stop the medicine without asking your doctor.

Common

  • Dizziness
  • Back pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sinus or throat infection
  • Low blood pressure

Get medical help if you notice

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing — stop and seek emergency care
  • Feeling faint or dizzy, especially when standing up — sit or lie down and tell your doctor
  • Muscle weakness, tiredness or an irregular heartbeat — may be high potassium; contact your doctor
  • Passing much less urine — contact your doctor

How to use

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed, usually once a day at the same time, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

How it works

Telmisartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels. This lets blood vessels relax and widen, which lowers blood pressure.

Safety advice

Alcohol Caution

Alcohol can lower blood pressure further and make you dizzy. Limit alcohol.

Pregnancy Unsafe

It can harm the unborn baby and must not be used in pregnancy. Tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant or plan to.

Breastfeeding Consult your doctor

It is not recommended while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about other options.

Driving Caution

It can cause dizziness or tiredness, especially at the start. Do not drive if you feel affected.

Kidney Caution

Your doctor may check kidney function and potassium levels regularly. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.

Liver Caution

Tell your doctor if you have liver disease. It must not be used in severe liver disease or bile duct blockage.

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember the same day. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses together.

  • Take it every day at the same time, even if you feel well.
  • Get up slowly from sitting or lying to avoid dizziness.
  • Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes unless your doctor says so.
  • Check your blood pressure regularly and keep your follow-up visits.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can I stop telmisartan when my blood pressure is normal?

No. Normal readings usually mean the medicine is working. Stopping can let your pressure rise again. Talk to your doctor first.

Does it cause a dry cough?

Dry cough is much less common with ARBs than with ACE inhibitors.

When is the best time to take it?

Take it at the same time each day; your doctor may advise morning or evening.

Can I take it if I am planning a pregnancy?

Tell your doctor. It should be switched to another medicine before pregnancy.
