About Montair 10 Tablet

Montair 10 Tablet contains Montelukast 10 mg. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used to prevent asthma symptoms and to relieve allergy symptoms of the nose. It is taken once a day, usually in the evening, with or without food. It does not relieve a sudden asthma attack.

Uses of Montair 10 Tablet

  • Long-term prevention of asthma symptoms
  • Prevention of narrowing of the airways caused by exercise
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever), when other medicines are not suitable

Benefits

In asthma

Taken every day, it helps reduce wheezing, coughing and chest tightness and lowers the chance of asthma attacks. It is used alongside your other asthma medicines, not instead of them.

In allergic rhinitis

It can ease a blocked or runny nose and sneezing.

Side effects

Most people have no or mild side effects. Tell your doctor straight away about any change in mood, sleep or behaviour, including in children.

Common

  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Tiredness

Get medical help if you notice

  • Changes in mood or behaviour such as agitation, aggression, bad dreams, trouble sleeping, depression or thoughts of self-harm — stop and contact your doctor straight away
  • Pins and needles or numbness in the arms or legs, with flu-like illness or rash — contact your doctor
  • Allergic reaction: rash, swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing — seek emergency care

How to use

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed, once a day, usually in the evening. Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food. Keep taking it every day, even when you have no symptoms.

How it works

It blocks leukotrienes, chemicals that cause swelling, tightening and mucus in the airways and nose.

Safety advice

Alcohol Caution

No interaction with alcohol is known, but alcohol can trigger asthma symptoms in some people.

Pregnancy Consult your doctor

Use only if your doctor advises it. Keeping asthma controlled in pregnancy is important, so do not stop without advice.

Breastfeeding Consult your doctor

It passes into breast milk in small amounts. Ask your doctor before using it while breastfeeding.

Driving Caution

It can occasionally cause dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive if you feel affected.

Kidney Safe

No dose change is needed in kidney disease.

Liver Caution

No change is usually needed in mild to moderate liver disease. It has not been studied in severe liver disease; tell your doctor.

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses together.

Quick tips

  • It does not stop a sudden asthma attack — always carry your reliever inhaler.
  • Keep using your other asthma medicines unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
  • Tell your doctor straight away about any mood, sleep or behaviour change.
  • Take it every day, even when you feel well.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can I use it instead of my inhaler?

No. It does not replace your inhalers. It does not treat a sudden attack.

How long before it works?

Some effect starts within a day, but it may take a few weeks of regular use for the full benefit.

Why is there a warning about mood?

Rarely, it has been linked to mood and behaviour changes, including thoughts of self-harm. Report any such change to your doctor straight away.

Can children take it?

Children's doses and formulations are different. Use only what a doctor has prescribed for the child.
