About Jardiance 10 Tablet
Jardiance 10 Tablet contains Empagliflozin 10 mg. Empagliflozin is a medicine for type 2 diabetes that helps the kidneys remove extra sugar through the urine. In people with heart or kidney problems, it may also be used to lower the risk of heart and kidney complications. It is taken once a day, with or without food, along with diet and exercise.
Uses of Jardiance 10 Tablet
- Type 2 diabetes, along with diet and exercise
- To lower the risk of death from heart disease in adults with type 2 diabetes and heart disease
- Heart failure
- Chronic kidney disease
Benefits
In type 2 diabetes
It lowers blood sugar, which helps reduce the long-term risk of damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart. It works best with a healthy diet and regular activity.
In heart failure and kidney disease
It can lower the chance of hospital stays for heart failure and slow the worsening of kidney disease, as part of your doctor's treatment plan.
Side effects
Keeping the genital area clean and dry can help prevent yeast infections. Talk to your doctor if any side effect bothers you.
Common
- Genital yeast infections (itching or discharge)
- Urinary tract infections
- Passing urine more often
- Thirst
Get medical help if you notice
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fast breathing, unusual tiredness or confusion (signs of ketoacidosis, which can happen even when blood sugar is normal) — stop and get medical help straight away
- Pain, tenderness, redness or swelling in the genital area or between the legs with fever — seek medical help urgently
- Dizziness, fainting or very little urine (signs of dehydration) — contact your doctor
- Burning when passing urine with fever or back pain — contact your doctor
- Shaking, sweating, fast heartbeat or confusion (low blood sugar), especially with insulin or sulfonylureas — eat or drink something sugary and contact your doctor
How to use
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed, once a day, usually in the morning. Swallow the tablet whole with water; it can be taken with or without food.
How it works
It blocks a protein in the kidneys (SGLT2) that normally takes sugar back into the blood. More sugar is passed out in the urine, which lowers blood sugar. It also helps the body lose some salt and water.
Safety advice
Alcohol Caution
Heavy drinking increases the risk of ketoacidosis and low blood sugar. Limit alcohol and ask your doctor what is safe for you.
Pregnancy Consult your doctor
It is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Unsafe
It is not recommended while breastfeeding.
Driving Caution
It does not usually affect driving, but low blood sugar can happen if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not drive if you feel dizzy or shaky.
Kidney Caution
Your doctor will check your kidney function. Its sugar-lowering effect is smaller when the kidneys work less well, and it is not used in people on dialysis.
Liver Caution
It is not recommended in severe liver disease. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems.
If you miss a dose
If you miss a dose, take it when you remember the same day. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses in one day.
